Description

A 13 panel panorama of the Milky Way from the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station (VIS) on Mauna Kea, Hawaii.  I used my Canon EOS 7D Mark II and a Rokinon 16mm lens.  ISO 1600, 15sec at f/2.  The 13 frames were processed in Adobe Camera Raw, saved as TIF files and stitched using MicroSoft's Image Composite Editor (ICE).  I used Photoshop CC 2019 for final processing of the panorama.

The glow from Kilauea Volcano, which coincidentally had just begun a new eruption early that morning, is clearly seen in the image.  This is just the glow from the eruption lighting up the overlying eruption cloud which had penetrated through the overlying cloud cover.  The VIS is at 9200' on the south side of the 13,803' Mauna Kea, itself an extinct volcano.  Kilauea Volcano is about 27 miles away from the VIS.
